We invite you to join the Foundation’s mission.
ST. HYACINTH’S FOUNDATION is a charity founded in 2004 by Gdansk’s Dominicans which supports the charitable and educational work of the local Dominican abbey, and furthermore takes care of the historical Church of St. Nicholas in Gdańsk and its heritage.
Dominican legacy and heritage
The Foundation actively cares for and expands the legacy and heritage of the Dominican Order in Gdansk and Pomerania as a whole. Your generosity and support enables us to carry out conservation work in our Church, engage in charitable work, and maintain our cultural activities. We are constantly raising funds for cultural and conservation projects, and we are also currently carrying out an extremely ambitious project to hang the baroque bell „Nicholas”, which has returned to Gdansk after an 80-year absence, up in our church once again!
Cultural projects
We frequently engage in cultural and educational projects. In the past, we have organized spectacles, concerts, lectures, and conferences to further cultural and historical awareness, organize workshops and meetings, and also support several local institutions.
800th anniversary
In 2027, the Dominican tradition in Gdansk will celebrate the 800th anniversary of its arrival to the city. The year will present many opportunities to organize events celebrating the vast heritage, culture, tradition, and history which the Dominican Order has created and preserved throughout the past eight centuries.
Publications
St. Hyacinth’s Foundation also publishes longer, non-fiction works. All income derived from the sale of these books goes towards efforts to conserve the Church’s main building.
Support of other institutions
We also take care of the spiritual and material heritage of the Dominican Order. We support the Choir of St. Nicholas, which shares and propagates an artistic vision and experience of faith; we additionally aid the Dominican Nuns of St. Anne Monastery and promote Christian culture and an abundance of educational and artistic activities.
Saint Hyacinth, the first Pole in the Dominican Order, founded the Dominican community at St. Nicholas’ Church in Gdansk together with the friars. This marked the beginning of a great missionary and cultural project.
